Did you know that you can make a statement with the blinds in your outdoor living area? This is very much possible as you can be as creative, fun and crazy with your blinds as you want. Blinds come in a wide range of colours, style, patterns and materials. Because of this, it may be a difficult task to choose a blind that will suit your needs.

So, below are some tips that will help you choose the best colour for your blind: You may be looking for blinds that match your patio’s awning and flooring colour or keep it neutral to make it last through many different decor choices. However, if you are looking for pazzazz, then it may be a good idea to look some creative colours and patterns.

Choosing colours for blinds: What’s in?

There are basically no rules for selecting colours for blinds. This means that you can buy whatever you want. You can choose bold patterns, bright colours and choose any texture you like. Even though patterns add a modern statement, it is a good idea to avoid overdoing it with matching cushions or wallpaper.

Keep in mind that a little pattern is enough and can bring about the desired effect. Bold or chevron or bold black and white stripe with some colour are in right now. Just choose your favourite colour and stick to it. When choosing colours for blinds, ensure that choose a palate of about three colours.

If you are not a fan of patterns, choose a bold dramatic colour as this will make the blinds a feature in a patio. This is a good choice for those who want a modern looking interior. Although it can be plain, it will certainly look eclectic.

Choosing colours for blinds: Don’t overdo it

Light patterns and colours matched with other light patterns and colours give a patio a relaxed look. Dark patterns and colours matched with light are more dramatic and fun. Ensure that you balance your space by choosing colours for blinds that complement and highlight each other. Darker colours may also mean less cleaning ( as long as you don’t go too close to black).

It is not a bad idea to try mixing texture and colour. Just avoid overdoing it by ensuring that everything is bold and patterned. It is okay to have a little bit of colour, pattern and/ or texture.

Creating space through colour choices

Using the right colours can make your patio look small or large. You can soften your room and make it feel bigger by using light colours. Adding horizontal stripes to your room will add width. Adding vertical stripes, on the other hand, will make the roof look higher.

Therefore, it is a good idea to consider the effect you want in your patio area before looking for blinds colours and patterns. Do you want a Mediterranean feel? If the answer is a yes, then it may be a good idea to look for yellow and blue colours.

It can also be a good idea to choose red and ochre as this will make it more oriental and earthy. Winter in Sydney is a good reminder that picking outdoor furniture for your Sydney home should be a well-considered decision.

Quality patio furniture provides plenty of functionality and comfort to your outdoor areas. With comfortable, easy-to-use chairs and a large table, your basic brick patio will be completely transformed into a rich dining destination. Outfit your cozy porch with a classic wicker rocking chair and wicker sofa, both of which come with comfortable cushions, and very quickly your porch will become your second room over those months when the weather is warm.

Also don’t overlook all of the outdoor living opportunities that are available in pocket gardens and balconies of your Sydney home. When it is complement with the correct patio furniture, those small garden getaways will welcome you outside over and over again.

Read through the following tips on who to select the best patio furniture for the outside space that you have. Some careful and thoughtful planning will help to ensure that your outdoor living area is welcoming and inviting for many years to come in the future.

1. Make a List

Start by thinking about how you want to use your outdoor area. Will be using it as an outdoor dining area on those warm summer nights? Do you want to host your children’s birthday parties or dinner parties in your space? Or would you like your outdoor room to be a nice, peaceful reading nook?

Make a list of all the things that you would like to do with your space and then use it as a guide for determining what kind of furniture you are going to need. If the main function of your 12 x 16 foot patio is for hosting casual evening cocktails, then you won’t need to have a dining table. Instead, choose plenty of comfortable seating, a fire pit and several side tables.

2. Take a Seat

Before you buy, take a seat. Just like interior furniture, comfortable patio furniture, will be used on a regular basis in contrast to uninviting patio furniture, which may look good but isn’t so comfortable.

3. Go for Easy Care

You can reserve most of your garden hours to enjoy your space instead of having to maintain furniture if you buy easy-care patio furniture. A majority of all-weather wicker, cedar, teak and metal furniture pieces are unfazed by whatever is thrown their way by mother nature. Furniture that is made out of those forgiving materials will still look great for years to come.

4. Consider Storage

Store your patio furniture in a protected location to add years to its life, like a basement or garage in the off season. Even the most toughest furniture, like a wrought iron settee or teak chairs, will last longer when you put it into storage when you are not using it. If you have limited storage space, look for patio furniture to buy that is easy to take part or fold for very compact storage.

5. Be Smart About Your Color Choices

When buying patio furniture, you don’t have to limit yourself to natural wood tones; or the beige, white and black of metal pieces and wicker. There are also plenty of colorful finishes available for outdoor furniture. For longevity purposes, reserve bold colors for your accent pieces and cushions.

6. Invest in Quality

When it comes to patio furniture, that old saying of “you get what you pay for” holds true. Plastic resin side tables or chairs look excellent on the shelf and they will retain their great looks for a few years out in the sun, however in time they will start to grow brittle and their vibrant coloring will start to fade. The same thing is true for some wicker pieces and wood products. Shop carefully, check consumer reviews and reports, before you make any large purchases.

7. Consider Patio Blinds

Sydney weather is pretty good all year round, however if you want to make your patio super inviting in Winter, install some outdoor blinds and stick a gas heater in there, your patio will be warm and toasty throughout the Sydney Winter. Even better get some Zipscreens from Design Outdoor Blinds Sydney and the wind and rain will be blocked out all year long.

8. Don’t Forget The Floor

Ground your patio furniture by putting an all-weather rug on the floor. In recent years, textile advancements have introduced numerous quick-drying outdoor rules into the marketplace. Rich in texture and softer underfoot, an outdoor rug can lend the indoor comforts to your outdoor area.

9. Look for Dual-Purpose Pieces

Search for furniture that works hard for you. An ottoman may be able to double as an extra seat at your next backyard party or a simple bench can either stand alone or be used at alfresco dining table. These pieces are essential for your outdoor spaces.

There are advantages to hosting an outdoor party – you can invite more guests to join in on all the fun, it provides a very relaxed atmosphere and your house will stay clean as well. Everyone loves summer outdoor entertaining in Sydney, but what about when the nights grow colder and the days grow darker?

Here in Sydney it has just dropped to around 10 Degrees in the evening, particularly in Western Sydney. Although the outdoors isn’t the most inviting at the this time of year, it isn’t necessary for winter to cramp your style for outdoor living and entertaining. Fully embrace the colder season and add some cozy scenery and a crackling fire to your door parties. Although there are some challenges to hosting a winter party, we have been able to compile some excellent ideas to fight off the urge to hole up and make the most out of the colder weather.

1. Build a Fire Pit or Fire

It can be an incredible experience to gather around a roaring hot fie on a long and cold winter’s night. Fire pits, outdoor fireplaces and bonfires are the perfect thing for keeping all of your guests warm and providing a focal point for your outdoor party.

Outdoor fires provide a very festive feeling to them and are perfect for making your guests feel warm and comfortable. If you aren’t crazy about having an open fire, then fire pit tables or fit pits can make an excellent addition to your party. It will also provide your guests and you with another place for resting your drinks. Just make sure to have marshmallows handy for people to toast with.

2. Keep all Of your Guests Warm

Your fire will help keep your best warm, however it is also a good idea to have a few other things on hand just in case. Make sure to have a pile of blankets handy that your friends can wrap up in as well as some hats and gloves for some added layers of clothing.

3. Serve Cold Drinks and Hot Food

Having the right drinks and food is critical for your outdoor party. When it is cold outside then it is definitely ideal to have hot food. Having a barbecue is usually the easiest option when throwing an outdoor party, but you can always have toasty snacks and winter warmers if you want to offer your guests something a bit different.

It is great to be able to pass out finger foods such as hamburger slides at a party, or you can try pizza and mini hotdogs. A pizza stone can be used for keeping slices of pizza warm and appetizers can be store in a small outdoor burner to keep them warm. Offer winter drinks to your guests that will really set the tone, like liqueurs and mulled wine that can warm you up nicely. If you are going to serve cold drinks like soft drinks and beer, set a few ice buckets up to keep drinks cold.

4. Design A Good Surface For Entertaining

An alfresco timber decking surface can provide the idea area for year round outdoor entertaining and living. It can be ideal if the area is covered to make sure your furniture and guests don’t get wet. It will also provide you with a good space for setting up cozy cushions or couches to lounge on. Outdoor decking is among the best investments you can make for your home – particularly if you love outdoor entertaining and living.

5. Select the Right Music

It is quite an art to choose the right music to play at an outdoor party. You want to have a bit of everything since if you only choose the music you like it might not appeal to everybody – try to keep everybody’s best interests in mind. Music can really make or break any outdoor party so you need to make sure to have a good selection for individuals to choose from and to mingle to. You might want to use a music streaming system that allows guests to add songs to, or get a party list created with some classic to get everyone up and dancing.

6. Make Sure To Tell Your Guest That It Is An Outdoor Party

Your guests need to be as comfortable and prepared for the night as possible. Therefore make sure you tell everyone that the party will be taking place outside. That way your friends can wear the right attire and bring along a couple of extra layers for keeping warm in. If you don’t have a sufficient number of blankets, ask your guests if they can bring along some extra ones so no one ends up being cold.

7. Install Some Outdoor Blinds

OK, OK. We may be a little bit biased on this one. But installing a few outdoor patio blinds will allow the warmth that you generate in all of the other steps to be captured and kept in your patio area. It will also protect you from directional rain, a patio with an awning is great, but a bit of Sydney’s directional rain can soak your patio and your guests instantly.

8. Light Things Up

It is essential to have adequate lighting at an outdoor party. It only help to create a cozy ambiance and good mood but is very important for safety considerations as well. If there are going to be guests there that haven’t been to your house before, then you will want to ensure that the front of your house is appropriately lit and that the path is lit to the outdoor living area so that guests don’t end up walking through your house to get to the party.

The eating area and outdoor tables should well-lit to ensure that your guests are able to eat comfortably. If there isn’t enough outdoor lighting or power points, mason jars or glass holders with candles in them can be used. Don’t forget that some outdoor light will also be provided by the fire. You will want to try to find the balance between things not being too awkward and bright but having enough illumination for your guests so that people can still get around comfortably. The right lighting will complement your decor as well as provide your guests with a warm and nice glow.

8. Create a Space for Dancing

Although not everyone might be into dancing, you will want to have an area where people can dance if they want to. If your outdoor area is small that can be a but tricky. But if you plan things ahead of time you can eliminate any potential problems in advance.

Locate a space that can be separated from the tables and chairs. Also, having the right lighting will once again be important. It is ideal if the dance area is set up close to the music. That will encourage guests to get up and dance when the right song comes on.

Regardless of the weather condition, outdoor blinds can make your outdoor living space, verandah or patio a new area to entertain your family, friends, and guests. There are very many things you need to consider when looking for outdoor blinds that will satisfy your needs.

Even though cheap outdoor blinds may look like a good choice at first, it will be more expensive since you will have to replace the blinds within a short time because of poor quality. Is it really cost effective to buy a cheaper outdoor blind which will only last for 2 years instead of a blind that will last for 8 years?

As you can see the cheaper outdoor blinds may end up becoming 4 times more expensive than the longer lasting outdoor blinds.

Outdoor blinds are usually exposed to the sun and weather each and every day meaning that you have to buy one that looks great and can last for a long period of time and not only a few months.

Although saving a few dollars when buying an outdoor blind may look like an attractive option, it will cost you two or three times more in the long end as you will have to replace the cheap product within a short time.

Do you want to have a shade from the sun, keep out the weather or stop the insects from interrupting your party? Do you want a blind that can be operated with ease and one that is safe for your family? Make an informed decision by buying quality blinds instead of buying cheap ones.

1) Is the blind sealed within a track?

The photo of a channel blind is shown below. The blind material freely sits within the wide side channel, making it flap in the wind, or easily fall out of the channel. With a light push, the blind material becomes dislodged.

Compare this to track guided blinds which create a complete seal on the left and right side. This means that winds, rains, and insects will be prevented from passing through. Track guided blinds will not flap in the wind and don’t slip out of the track.

These type of outdoor blinds do not have to be raised when there is a slight sign of bad weather and you can just leave them down in a much higher wind. Channel guided blinds take up more space hence reducing your view outside and ‘closing in’ your entertaining area even when the blind is retracted.

2) Are there ropes, zips or a crank handle?

Traditional outdoor blinds use pullies or ropes to lower and raise the blind. They also have zips to secure the blind into place. The systems are highly susceptible to damage due to the fact that many parts of the blind are regularly exposed to the elements and the zips are jammed.

The rope system in most cases does not allow the blind to be properly retracted. Therefore, the material of the blind ‘bunches up’ making the blind look bad and also lead to long term damage. Crank blinds require you to spin a handle round and round for at least one minute per blind.

Retracting (raising) the blind is slower and takes more effort than lowering the blind. Crank systems usually have exposed componentry susceptible to weather and you will have to store the crank stick somewhere.

Our outdoor blinds are robust and can withstand years of tough weather conditions in Australia. They have a completely aluminum system and don’t need exposed zips, cumbersome crank handle or pullies. They will look good and operate well for many years longer than other products.

3) How easy is the blind to operate?

The operation of crank handles is cumbersome and time-consuming. You will also have to struggle to raise very many blinds with all the time and energy it takes. It is very important to do a thorough research and choose the right type of outdoor blinds that will perform as it should and last for a long period of time.

Cleaning both sides of the fabric using a soft cloth and water on a regular basis helps keep the fabric clean. You can hose occasionally with fresh cold water. When rolling the blind up, make sure that the fabric is thoroughly dry.

PVC blinds can be exposed to both water and sunlight. However, the natural characteristics of PVC vent off plasticizer, aging the product and affecting clarity over time. If possible, all blinds should be left in a vertical fixed position.

However, if they are rolled up, it is very important to unwind and lay it flat on a regular basis to extend the flexibility and clarity of clear PVC films. It is highly recommended that blinds should be dropped for at least 48 hours at any one time.

Where extended periods of retraction are necessary, an extended period of vertical extension will be necessary to allow embossing and roller marking to drop out of the PVC film.

Even though you can maintain clarity to some degree with a cleaning regime, it is very important that all surfaces are not exposed to chemical compounds which can damage the surface of the PVC. Neutral diluted detergents have proven to be the best method that to remove stains and marks from the surface of the PVC without having an effect on the structure or makeup of the material.

Check out the homepage to see the different options available in choosing the best fabric/material for your patio blinds.

Recommended cleaning process

The recommended cleaning process is as shown below

1. To avoid any scratches when wiping using a cleaning cloth, remove any particles on the surface of the material.
2. Use a soft fabric cloth to clean using a diluted warm water based detergent solution 1:10. The 1 part is the detergent while the 10 parts represent the water.
3. Rinse completely with fresh water and wipe dry with a soft lint-free cloth or sponge.

Cleaning agents are commercially available for clear PVC materials. It is very important that you verify the performance of the products with the suggested cleaning instructions included and recommended by the cleaning solution manufacturer.
We do not take any responsibility for the performance of any cleaning agent and any potential damage that may be caused to the surface of materials after using the cleaning agents.

How To remove tough stains

1. Mix a weak concentration of household detergent in a 1:20 ration in luke warm water. Make sure that the detergent you used does not have any solvents.
2. Use a soft cloth or sponge to apply the water mix and detergent to the fabric. Once it is clean, rinse off all residue using a lot of fresh, cold water.
